A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that moves hair follicles from a donor area, usually the back and sides of the scalp, to areas where hair is thinning. Whether it is suitable for you depends on your hair-loss pattern, donor area and overall health, which a doctor assesses at consultation.

In FUE, individual follicles are extracted from the donor area and implanted in the recipient area. Sapphire FUE uses sapphire blades to make the recipient channels. DHI uses a special pen-like implanter to place follicles. Your doctor explains which technique may suit you after examining your scalp.

Suitability depends on the cause and stage of your hair loss, the density of your donor area, your age and your general health. Not everyone with hair loss is a candidate, and some people are advised to start with medical treatment first. A doctor will tell you honestly after an examination.

The procedure is usually done under local anaesthesia, so the area is numbed. You may feel some pressure or discomfort during the injections and some soreness afterwards. Your doctor will explain pain relief and aftercare.

Recovery varies between people. Redness, scabbing and swelling are common in the first days to weeks, and many people return to light routine activity within a few days, as advised by their doctor. Transplanted hair usually sheds before new growth begins over the following months. Follow your written aftercare plan and attend your follow-up reviews.

All surgery has risks, including infection, bleeding, swelling, scarring, temporary numbness and uneven growth. Results vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed. Existing hair that is not transplanted may continue to thin over time. Your doctor will discuss the risks and limitations with you before you decide.

Charges are calculated per graft.Your total depends on the number of grafts you need, which is confirmed in writing after your assessment.

Yes. PRP and other non-surgical hair-loss treatments are available. A doctor will explain what each treatment involves, how it is given and its limitations, so you can decide what is right for you. Evidence for these treatments varies, and outcomes are not guaranteed.
